downstairs bathroom

Another two months have passed since my last update and it has already been over a month since the wedding! Things are finally starting to settle down here...though I still have moving boxes in the living room. Slacker, I know.

I thought I would do a short post on the downstairs bathroom, which has actually been relatively done for a while. Like the whole house, it is still a work in progress but all of the basics are there! Like the fact we still don't have a toilet paper holder or actual window coverings. I have been working on adding finishing touches and decorations to the house but that part is going slowly as our bank accounts recover from the wedding :)

I wanted to keep a classic look in the bathroom. I feel that in old houses you should try to keep a little bit of the "old look" in each room and avoid going completely modern. It is a delicate balance between vintage and classic modern updates. Several people have asked or questioned the "original floor" and one person said "This looks like a Nicole Curtis bathroom!" both of which made me smile of course.

Turns out it is remarkably hard to get good pictures in small spaces...and I am definitely not a professional photographer by any means. I need some lighting lessons!

Here is the view into the bathroom from the office/study/spare bedroom.

I love black and white contrasts, so glad we decided to go with the dark grout!

We got the marble floor tile at Home Depot, they have a great marble selection at decent prices (still expensive!) The subway tile came from Lowes and I cannot say enough about subway tile, I am obviously obsessed. It is a clean, classic look that is extremely affordable.

The toilet is Kohler and a 28" one (shorter) so that it wouldn't stick too far out into the vanity space. I love, love the light that I ended up going with and we got that from a local light store, Cayce Mill.

The vanity came form Cabinet Doors and More in Fordsville and I painted it. The wood top also came from there and my dad stained it with "Dark Mahogany" that we got from Benjamin Moore. I love the wood top but it is remarkably hard to get water spots off of, even though we sealed it. Just a warning if water spots bother you. They bother me, but after a while I just stopped looking :)

The vessel sink also came form Cabinet Doors and More! They don't keep a regular stock of vessel sinks, they just happened to come by some. I ordered the faucet from Lowes, which is often people's favorite thing about the bathroom!

Can't wait to add some things to his bathroom! I really want to add shelves above the toilet next, which I fell in love with when I saw John and Jaime's home tour at the blog Apartment Therapy.

A perfect place for clean towels and bathroom accessories for our guests.

I promise to start doing weekly updates and post projects as I complete them!
